São Paulo – On Friday (16th) and Saturday, six representatives of Brazilian companies will visit the Food Gate & Fresh Gate fair in the city of Sharm El Sheik, Egypt. The fair will be attended by the leading manufacturers of spices, medicinal and aromatic herbs in the region. in addition to visiting the event, the representatives of companies Agrofood, Santos Flora, Temperart, Ricex, Ruell, and FR Castro will engage in business matchmaking rounds with 22 exporters in Cairo.
The trip is promoted under project Emap (Egyptian Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), a partnership between the Egyptian government, the United Nations Industrial Development organization (Unido) and the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs. The Emap was launched in 2011 to promote the medicinal herb industry up until 2014 through technical visits to other countries and attracting foreign businessmen to Egypt. Visitors from over 100 nations are expected at the Food Gate fair.
According to the commercial manager for the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Janaína Calonga, the event is an opportunity for Brazilian companies to find trade partners in the Arab country. She noted that some of the companies may come to be exporters of processed spice and herb products in the future.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber Government Relations Executive Tamer Mansour believes the Brazilians may leave Egypt with good deals under their belts. “Brazil imports virtually all the spice and herbs it consumes. These businessmen may find good opportunities there,” he said. Calonga and Mansour will travel with the businessmen.
Agrofood import analyst Sandra Braz said the company exportesr products to Egypt, such as beans, coffee and pepper, and that she will also look for new partners during the visit. “Right now we import fennel from India. I might find a supplier in Egypt,” she said.
This is not the first time that Brazil takes part in Emap’s actions. In September this year, representatives of the project came to the country to see the local market and seek spice and medicinal herb importers. On the occasion, they visited the Food Ingredients South America fair, in São Paulo, and attended meetings organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber.
The businessmen will also meet with the Brazilian ambassador to Cairo, Marco Antonio Diniz Brandão.
