São Paulo – The 60th Damascus International Fair began this Thursday evening (6) in Damascus, the capital of Syria, and the Brazilian stand has already been visited by executives looking to do business. Pictured above is the event’s opening ceremony.
“At the stand shared by the Embassy of Brazil and the Arab Chamber, we welcomed about 50 Arab executives from Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon who were looking to buy sugar, coffee, soy and beef,” said Arab Chamber CEO Michel Alaby, who’s at the fair.
Brazilian companies from many sectors are taking part in the expo as exhibitors, in the stand that was organized by Brazil’s embassy and the Arab Chamber for the second consecutive year. The trade fair was held once again in 2017, after a five-year interruption due to Syria’s conflict.

According to Alaby, estimates by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) signals that Syria will need from USD 250 billion to USD 400 billion worth of investments in rebuilding projects. “It will be a good opportunity for construction companies, plus suppliers of construction materials,” he said.
The trade show’s director general, Fares Kitrala, said, according to Alaby, that 48 countries are being represented in the event and that the total number of companies taking part reaches 1,400, among local and foreign businesses. The Damascus International Fair runs until September 15.
