São Paulo – The volume of Brazilian egg exports rose by 150% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2022, Brazil’s meat trade lobby ABPA reported. Year to date through June saw 16,600 tonnes being exported, grossing USD 41.2 million, up 224.4% from a year earlier.
In June alone 4,600 tonnes of eggs were exported from Brazil, up 901.1% from a year earlier. Revenue was up 608.6% to 11.6 million.
“In 2023 we posted the best half in the past ten years, with the expectation of reaching a new level of egg exports from Brazil due to the average recorded in the past three months, over 4,000 tonnes a month. Volumes shipped from April to June established the best quarter ever recorded by the sector. Although it doesn’t impact the domestic supply of eggs, as it accounts for less than 1% of the output, exports have been cemented as a key source of revenue for the industry companies in the face of the challenges created by production costs in recent years,” the head of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, was quoted as saying.
The leading destinations of exports featured Japan at the top of the list at 6,900 tonnes imported year to date through June, up 1,304% from a year earlier. Then comes Taiwan at 5,400 tonnes – last year didn’t saw any egg shipments to the Asian country.
The United Arab Emirates ranked third in the list of destinations of Brazilian eggs. The Arab country bought 781 tonnes in the first half of the year, down 82% from last year’s 4,300 tonnes.
