Brasília – Brazil’s Growth Domestic Product (GDP) – the sum of all goods and services produced in the country – grew 0.2% in Q2 2018 in comparison to the previous quarter, with seasonally adjusted data. This was the sixth consecutive positive result after eight straight negative variations in this comparison. The GDP totaled BRL 1.693 trillion (USD 430 billion). The data was shown this Friday (31) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The data shows that the slight expansion was driven by the services sector, which posted a growth of 0.3%, while industry declined 0.6%. The agriculture sector remained stable.
In comparison to Q2 2017, there was a 1% growth in this year’s Q2, the fifth consecutive positive result in this comparison. The industry and services sectors expanded 1.2% while agriculture shrank 0.4%.
Regarding demand, household consumption grew 1.7% – the fifth consecutive quarter registering an expansion in comparison to the same quarter of the previous year.
Year-over-year, the country’s GDP grew 1.4% over the four previous quarters.
