Brasília – Federal, states and local governments in Brazil ran a BRL 2.763 billion (USD 647.8 million at current exchange rate) primary deficit in July. It was the best result for the month since 2013, when Brazil saw a BRL 2.763 billion (USD 662.9 million) surplus. Statistics were reported by the Central Bank (BC) this Friday (30).
The primary result is composed by the revenues minus expenses, without considering interests. July 2018 saw a higher deficit: BRL 3.401 billion (USD 816.9 million). Year-to-date, the Central Government recorded a primary deficit of BRL 8.503 billion (USD 2.04 billion), from BRL 17.825 billion (USD 4.277 billion) last year.
Central Government’s net debt (credit and debit balance of the federal, states and local governments) reached BRL 3.914 trillion (USD 939 billion) in July, accounting for 55.8% of the GDO, down from 55.2% in June.
