Brasília – Grain output in Brazil could reach 269.3 million tonnes in the 2021/22 harvest, a 5.4% increase compared to the previous. The projection was released this Thursday (7) by the Brazilian National Supply Company (CONAB). If confirmed, it will represent an expansion of 13.8 million tonnes compared to 2020/2021.
The forecast, however, is lower than the one informed in the company’s first survey, which projected a harvest of 288.6 million tonnes. According to CONAB, this drop in the projection is due to adverse weather conditions observed in the states of the South region and the Mid-South of Mato Grosso do Sul, with more significant losses in soybeans and maize.
Soybean production is expected to reach 122.4 million tonnes, a reduction of 11.4% compared to the previous harvest. The estimated maize output is 115.6 million tonnes, 32.7% higher than the last cycle. In the case of cotton, there could be a production of 2.83 million tonnes, 19.9% more than the previous harvest.
The projection is at 3.1 million tonnes for beans, 7.6% above the previous crop. Rice production is estimated at 10.5 million tonnes, 10.5% lower. Sowing is still developing for winter crops such as oats, canola, rye, barley, wheat, and triticale. Wheat is estimated to reach 7.9 million tonnes.
