São Paulo – Brazil’s industrial production dropped 0.2% from October to November 2021. It was the sixth consecutive decline in the indicator, which accumulated losses of 4% in the last six months assessed. Data from the Monthly Industrial Survey were released today (6) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
In comparison with November 2020, the drop was 4.4%. Nevertheless, in the accumulated result for the year and the 12-month period, the industry sector grew 4.7% and 5%, respectively.

From October to November, 12 of the 26 industrial activities had a downturn in production. The most relevant losses were in the segments of rubber and plastics (-4.8%), metallurgy (-3%), metal products (-2.7%), beverages (-2.2%), and petroleum products, coke, and biofuels (-0.6%).
Thirteen industry branches expanded. The highlights were food products (6.8%), mining and quarrying (5%), and motor vehicles, trailers, and bodies (2.9%).
Among the four large economic categories in the industry, capital goods (machinery and equipment used in the productive sector) was the only one with a decrease (-3%). On the other hand, Durable consumer goods registered the only gain in the month (0.5%). Semi and non-durable consumer goods and intermediate goods (industrialized inputs used in the productive sector) remained stable.
