Brasília – The Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) expects to double the value of deals closed last year during the Confederations Cup. Now, the projection, estimated on the basis of the number and potential of the foreign businessmen invited for the World Cup, increased the volume of investments and exports from US$ 3 billion to US$ 6 billion.
The Apex is bringing importers to Brazil during the games to meet with local businessmen, visit Brazilian companies and also to watch the games. The initiative is a partnership with sectoral associations, chambers of commerce and others. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is also a partner in the action.
"These are the estimates we make. A prior consultation with the company about how much they plan to spend and what is the potential of the business to be generated," said the Apex chairman, Maurício Borges. In the meetings promoted with 1,000 businessmen in the Confederations Cup deals worth US$ 1.8 billion in exports and US$ 1.2 billion in investments were closed.
To reach the target, the World Cup Buyer Project of Apex increased the number of businessmen invited from 1,000 to 2,300, and it has been promoting meetings with Brazilian companies of all sizes.
Apex representative pointed out that, while the economic growth slows down, the project may improve the image of the country. "This is definitely the moment to show a strong and creative productive sector," he said. He said businessmen think in the long term to close deals and do not rely only on current data on the economy, but on the potential it has.
