São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is going to participate in Cairo International Fair once again this month, between March 18th and 27th in the Egyptian capital. The organisation should have an institutional stand covering an area of 60 square metres for exhibition of material by Brazilian companies.
The fair, which is at its 42nd edition, is multisectorial. According to the Arab Brazilian Chamber, among the main products imported by Egypt are machinery for industrial applications, agricultural machinery and equipment, vehicles, electronic products and food.
Companies interested in sending promotional material to the event, like catalogues and small samples, should get in contact with the Marketing Department at the Chamber as soon as possible (see contact information below). The organisation should be represented by two employees during the exhibition, one from the Marketing department and another from the Foreign Trade department.
Last year, the fair brought together 680 exhibitors, being 273 from abroad, from 26 countries. It was visited by around 20,000 Egyptian businessmen and over 7,200 representatives of foreign companies. In the first three days of the event, the fair is just for businessmen, then, the aisles are open to the public in general.
From Brazil, Egypt buys mainly sugar, iron ore and beef, products that answered to around 60% of the export basket. Other important products in bilateral trade are calcinated alumina, chassis with engines for buses, tobacco, soy oil and chicken. Brazilian exports to the Arab country generated US$ 1.4 billion last year, growth of 13.75% over 2007, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
On the other hand, Brazilian imports from Egypt totalled US$ 218 million in 2008, growth of 313% over the previous year, according to the Ministry. The main products traded were inputs for the fertilizer industry and naphtha for the petrochemical sector.
"Apart from presence in the fair, we are going to meet some event organisers. The idea is, starting in 2009, to participate in fairs in the country in partnership with the business sector," said the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Michel Alaby.
After the visits, figures should be crossed comparing what Brazil exports to Egypt and what the Arab country imports from other suppliers, and not from Brazil, to verify what sectors present the greatest business perspectives for Brazilian companies.
