A group of 73 companies in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul underwent a technological diagnosis. It pointed to hindrances to production, as well as pathways for reducing costs and increasing productivity. The program is carried out by the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association (Abimaq) in partnership with government organisations and other enterprises.

Brazilian industry needs to prepare itself to do international research and needs to attract foreign projects for innovation in the country. This is one of the routes pointed out by the 2nd Brazilian Congress of Innovation in Industry, which took place this week in the industrial city of São Paulo. Industrial research is becoming international and Brazil may participate in this process.

This statement was made to ANBA by the minister of Science and Technology, Sérgio Rezende, soon after the opening of a congress turned to industrial innovation. According to the minister, Brazil does not have very great interaction with the Arabs with regard to innovation, but this may change.
