The diplomat, who worked as secretary-general of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Brazil’s ambassador to Quito during the Ecuador-Peru peace talks, took office as president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, 22. His main challenges include moving forward with the modernization of the institution and increasing trade with Arab countries.

One in communication and the other in economics, Maysoun Odeh Gangat of Palestine and Hala Bugaighis of Libya are creating opportunities for women in their countries. They told their stories during the webinar ‘Women Who Inspire,’ hosted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber on International Women’s Day.

This Monday (1st), Muslim and non-Muslim women are posting pictures of them wearing the veil on social media to support hijab wearers. This is the World Hijab Day, which is promoted in Brazil by a group of the University of São Paulo.

Soraya Smaili is the first woman ever to be president of the Federal University of São Paulo. Her many achievements include research, fighting the coronavirus, Oxford Vaccine testing, and bringing democracy and transparency to public universities. She’s also the founder of the Institute of Arab Culture.

For her doctoral work at the University of Oxford, Brazilian Egyptologist Thais Rocha looked into the notion of ‘home’ in connection with the worker villages of Ancient Egypt. She joined fieldwork in Amarna, where public areas were also viewed as places of residence.
