São Paulo – This Wednesday (24th), the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce CEO, Michel Alaby, met with company representatives and members of the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (Fiesc) who will participate in a mission to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates next week. In addition to discussing the mission schedule, Alaby gave a lecture on the business environment of the countries to be visited.
The United Arab Emirates, where Dubai is located, concentrates nearly half of all construction projects in the Gulf. The main works include expansion of the Al Maktoum Airport and construction of the Dubai Industrial City. Dubai is bidding to host the 2020 World’s Fair, is investing in expanding the capacity of its hotel industry and improving infrastructure.
Qatar, in turn, is preparing to host the FIFA World Cup 2022 by expanding its transport infrastructure. By the time the Cup starts, 240 new hotels are expected to have been built in the country, which is growing at rates ranging from 10% to 20% per year. Brazilian exports to Qatar, which dropped in the last three years, have returned to growth in 2012.
The mission schedule includes, among others, visits to construction sites and to the Big 5 fair, the largest for the industry in the Middle East, due from November 5th to 8th in Dubai. “Those who go to Doha and Dubai will have an opportunity to witness the proceedings leading up to construction works, methods, materials, and technologies used,” said Alaby.
