São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is going to participate for the fourth time in the Khartoum International Fair, in Sudan. The multisector exhibition will be held from February 01 to in the Sudanese capital. In addition to its institutional presence, the organisation wants to take some Brazilian companies to display their products at its stand.
According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Michel Alaby, the best-case scenario would be for four or five companies to send representatives to the fair. Moreover, the organisation is willing to take samples and catalogues of Brazilian companies, even in they do not send any employees.
In addition to showcasing the products, the Arab Brazilian Chamber wants to schedule meetings on the sidelines between the companies in the exhibition and local businessmen, according to Alaby. The fields with the best business opportunities are foodstuffs, agribusiness, petrochemicals, building material, ironworks, mining, textiles, leathers and capital goods.
Petroleum is the main export item of the country, which has been attempting to develop its agriculture as well, given the vast area available for farming and cattle raising. One of the areas of interest is the sugar and alcohol industry. The country has even imported an entire plant from Brazil, manufactured by Dedini.
According to information from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the market intelligence division of the group that publishes British magazine The Economist, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Sudan reached US$ 46.2 billion in 2007, with an average annual growth rate of more than 8% in the last five years. The country has a population of around 40 million inhabitants.
Brazilian exports to Sudan totalled US$ 49.5 million from January to November this year, growth of 20.7% over the same period of 2007. The main products shipped were powdered milk, equipment for plants, tobacco, agricultural machinery, electric engines and tractors.
