São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce signed in São Paulo this Tuesday (29), a memorandum of understanding with the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), from Dubai, to promote cooperation between both organizations. On Monday (28th), Jafza delivered a seminar at São Paulo’s capital to attract Brazilian companies to the free zone in the United Arab Emirates.
“We would like the Arab Brazilian Chamber to be your home in São Paulo and in Brazil”, said the organization’s Foreign Trade vice president, Rubens Hannun, alongside Jafza’s senior vice president of sales, Adil Al Zarooni. Both signed the document at a ceremony in the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s head office.
Zarooni pointed out that the seminar on Monday was “the most successful event” he attended with Jafza in the last four years. The businessman thanked the Arab Brazilian Chamber for the support in organizing the meeting and stressed that the Brazilian government, sector organizations and businessmen have worked hard to strengthen Brazil-Emirates relations, and with Dubai in particular.
“But we need to instruct the Brazilian companies better on how to use this platform [for business which Dubai represents]”, said Zarooni. “And the Arab Brazilian Chamber is the best partner in order to do this”, he stated.
The Emirati consul-general in São Paulo, Saleh Ahmed Al Suwaidi, added that “it is necessary to find reliable partners”. “And I believe that the Arab Brazilian Chamber is the ideal partner”, he said.
Hannun answered that the organization ‘works hard towards this” and said that the signing of the agreement comes at a moment of “maturity” of the relations between Brazil and the Emirates and Dubai. In his opinion, the recent opening of the consulate general for the Arab country in São Paulo’s capital shows this evolution.
“Now we would like to see the day in which the Arab Brazilian Chamber will have an office in Dubai”, said Zarooni. Hannun mentioned that the organization did have an office in the Emirate years ago, at a time when bilateral relations were not mature enough, and that it is currently active there though the partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex -Brazil), which has a business center in Jafza, but he reckons “it is about time the Arab Brazilian Chamber had a stronger presence in Dubai”. “The office is already reserved for you!”, joked the Jafza senior sales manager for the Americas, Ahmad Bin Harib.
Jafza will deliver a seminar similar to the one presented in São Paulo next Monday (05/05), in Rio de Janeiro.
