São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will promote the second part of its food industry Buyer Project next week. On the 25th and 26th, four distributors and supermarket owners based in the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Algeria will engage in business roundtables with Brazilian exporters at the Arab Brazilian Chamber headquarters, in the city of São Paulo.
Three buying companies attended the first edition of the event, held on the 10th and 11th: Al Maya, from the United Arab Emirates, Maza, from Bahrain, and Cozmocenter, from Jordan. A total of 75 meetings were held involving 25 Brazilian enterprises.
According to the manager of the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s Foreign Trade Department, Francisca Barros, the first edition resulted in US$ 2.4 million in deals, and over the coming 12 months, the organization estimates that the business volume should exceed US$ 8 million. “There is a strong potential for the volume to surpass that of the first edition. The buyers are large supermarket owners and distributors,” he stated.
Yemeni company Alsaeed Trading is in Brazil seeking products such as milk and its products, honey, sugar, vegetables, biscuit, candy etc. The Arab enterprise operates in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia and Indonesia. Also in attendance will be the Algeria-based Numidis, a branch of the Cevital group, which specializes in distribution of foodstuffs to large supermarkets, such as Uno City, which belongs to the group itself.
Numidis was established in January 2007 and was the first private food distributing company in Algeria. The enterprise is currently in the process of opening five local supermarkets, and is seeking all sorts of foodstuffs in Brazil.
Another participating company will be the EMKE Group, based in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, which distributes foodstuffs to the country’s leading supermarket chains, such as the Lulu hypermarket. The group owns operations in Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Indonesia, China, and other countries. The EMKE Group is in Brazil seeking new food products.
Also attending will be the Emirates-based arm of German company Binca International, which distributes food to Emirates Catering and the Jumeirah Group, respectively in the airline catering and hotel industries.
On Tuesday morning (25th), two more pharmaceutical and fashion sector companies will arrive from Saudi Arabia. According to the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s Foreign Trade Department, ten Brazilian enterprises have already enrolled to participate in the roundtables.
The pharmaceutical company is Batterjee Factory, owned by holding company Baterjee, which is active in various sectors, such as cosmetics, foodstuffs, personal hygiene, clothing, battery recycling, oil and gas, among others. The other enterprise is Tags Retailers, a representative of Hong Kong-based clothing brand Giordono.
