São Paulo – A Chinese government delegation that was in Brazilian capital Brasília yesterday showed interest in purchasing non genetically modified (GM) soy produced in Brazil. The mission from the Chinese department of Rural Economy met representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture.
Interest in non GM soy should benefit Brazilian exporters as opposed to those in the United States and Argentina, large producers of GM products.
The Chinese also want to discuss whether, in future, soy purchases can be made through Chinese companies, instead of international trading companies. The Chinese delegation will be returning to China next week. This information was provided by a spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture.
