São Paulo – Brazilians bought more gifts this Christmas, according to data released this Wednesday (26) by the National Confederation of Retailers (CNDL) and by the Brazilian Credit Bureau (SPC Brasil). The 2.66% growth in comparison with last year is the best result since 2014.
The survey considered consultations for credit sales between December 4 and 24 this year, the most lucrative period for retail. Last year, a 2.13% rise was registered. In the previous years, there was a series of falls: -2.29% (2016), -4.16% (2015) and -8.3% (2014).
Brazilians spent an estimated average of BRL 115.9 with Christmas gifts. The projection is that the date has generated BRL 53.5 billion in the economy.
According SPC Brasil chief economist Marcela Kawauti, the numbers reflect the restoration of consumer confidence and the expectation of economic upturn.
