São Paulo – It is not just the architecture of the United Arab Emirates that attracts Brazilian businessmen. The new technologies and innovations in the construction industry have caught the attention of the CEO of Grupo Baram, Josely Rosa. The enterprise manufactures equipment for the industry, such as scaffoldings. "I went there to get to know the country’s construction system. The automation and the fast pace of work have really stood out," he said.
Grupo Baram, which comprises three companies, works with sustainable construction methods and always has an eye out for new things. According to Rosa, trips to foreign countries reveal many ideas for future projects. "These travels add to my knowledge," said the businessman, who is about to release a machine for making stucco in March.
"The machine will be an exclusive Brazilian product, I know for a fact that they have nothing like it in the Emirates, and that opens up the possibility to release it there too," he added. The equipment, which will be developed in partnership with a group from Northeast Brazil, will help reduce the time spent in construction work and make up for the shortage of labour force faced by the industry nowadays.
In the Arab country, Rosa visited several construction sites and was enchanted by the fast pace of work. "They have lots of automation, quite different from here," he claimed. Nevertheless, the businessman states that the Arab market has potential for Grupo Baram’s products, and he intends to do more promotion work there.
The group’s equipment has been exported to Angola, South Africa, Argentina, Venezuela and Peru. It started exporting in 2004, but foreign sales are not its strength yet. "The domestic market is very strong right now, we cannot focus on the foreign market," he said.
On the market for ten years, Grupo Baram is based in Esteio, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and has 160 employees. According to Rosa, the group is the leading builder of electric and manual scaffolding in Brazil, with an output of 1,000 units per month. The group comprises the Baram Equipamentos, Verbam Máquinas and Verbam Fix companies.
Products made by the group, which has five branches throughout the country, include scrap grinders, sustainable filler for laying bricks or blocks, eco-friendly boarding, mini-crane and debris collector pipes.
