São Paulo – Marchesan, a maker of agricultural machinery and implements under Tatu brand, is investing in closer ties with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. "We are developing several plans aimed at increasing the volume of exports and mainly our participation in Arab fairs," stated the commercial director at the company, Francisco Matturro.
The company participated in a mission of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil to North Africa, promoted from January 24th to 31st to four Arab countries: Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Libya. Apart from that, the maker is studying participation in fairs in the sector in Algeria and Syria this year and next.
Exports by the company, headquartered in Matão, in the interior of São Paulo, began in the 1970s and were turned mainly to neighbouring countries like Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. "In a little while foreign sales expanded significantly and Marchesan now exports to 55 countries on five continents," said Matturro. Of the 450 products that are in the company portfolio, the main products exported are large harvesters and seeders. Currently, 25% of production is exported. The Arab market is the destination for 20% of the producer’s exports.
"Nowadays the Tatu brand is internationally renowned for the resistance and high performance of its broad product line turned to several kinds of terrain and used in preparation and conservation of the soil and in plantation and in cultivation of several crops," pointed out the director.
Tradition
Marchesan was established by brothers Armando and Luiz Marchesan in 1946. From simple producers of animal-traction vehicles and implements, the Marchesan brothers started producing plates for large harrows and ploughs, and then modern implements and agricultural machinery for mechanical traction. Over the last decades, Brazilian agriculture lived great transformation, with crops that were little explored gaining greater importance in the country. Immense areas, before occupied by coffee or livestock, made space for sugarcane, soy or oranges, and new agricultural frontiers arose.
The small workshop grew and Matão currently houses one of the largest companies in Latin America. Marchesan produces a broad line of agricultural machinery turned to the preparation of soil, sowing, cultivation and harvesting, like rotary cutters, scrapers and front loaders. The factory is built in an area of 220,000 square metres and generates 2,100 direct jobs.
To maintain the customer portfolio in Brazil and abroad, the company usually participates in the main agriculture fairs in the country, like the Agrishow, Coopavel and Cotrijal. Abroad, the group participates in fairs like Tulare, in the United States, Expo AgroAlimentaria, in Mexico, Expoagro, in Argentina and Nampo Show, in South Africa.
