São Paulo – Arab women have surrendered to the forms and curves promised by silicone implants. Of the 22 Arab countries, ten already import products made by Silimed, which has a factory in Rio de Janeiro. Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt are included in the list of clients of the brand, which exports mainly mammary, gluteal, facial and calf implants as well as expanders and silicone gel for treatment of scar tissue.
According to Clarisse Durante, the commercial manager at the company, sales to the Arab market represent approximately 5% of exports. "It seems little, but is not, considering the cultural differences and the short time we have been operating in this market," he said. "We are trying to learn more about the market, to train our distributors and find partners in the countries where we are not present, so we hope for greater participation of the Arab world in our business next year," finished off the manager.
According to her, Silimed operates abroad uniquely through its network of distributors. "Each year we participate in the Arab Health fair and are present, directly or through our distributors, in the main medical, plastic surgery, obesity and urology congresses in each country," he said.
Silimed was established in July 1978, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and produces approximately 240,000 implants a year. The first exports were to Argentina, in 1984, followed by other countries in Latin America. In 1989, Silimed started exporting to Europe. Today the company sells to over 70 countries on five continents, through a network of exclusive distributors. Around 50% of gross revenues come from exports.
Figures disclosed by the company show that Silimed was the first and is currently the only company to produce silicone implants in Latin America, and is already in the third place in the global ranking in the sector. In the beginning, in 1978, the then small company was dedicated to the trade of mammary silicone implants, made in France. Production only began in 1981.
"Today, our line of products for aesthetic and repair purposes is the broadest and most diversified in the market and the only one that has a serial number on each product, guaranteeing 100% chance of tracing the product right from the start of production," said Clarisse.
