São Paulo – Stores in Algeria are going to start selling furniture by the Carraro company, based in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. After months of negotiation and a visit of the Algerian buyer to the factory in Brazil, the company is going to ship three containers of bedroom, living room and kitchen furniture to the Arab country. “The visit was crucial for us to lay the groundwork with our contact, and establish relations,” said the export manager at the company, Frances Regina.
This will not be the company’s first time exporting to the Arab market. According to Frances, Carraro has already sold to Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Morocco, Kuwait and Algeria, but the company has no fixed distributors or clients, therefore shipments to the region do not take place on a regular basis. “We really believe in the Arab market, and have already exhibited at a fair in Dubai four times, but have not yet attained the level of success that we are striving for,” said the manager.
Another fair that the company attended in the Arab world was the Algiers International Fair, in 2006, when the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce took nine companies in the sector to the event.
In order to gain better knowledge of the market and check its potential, Frances is heading to North Africa in August. “They like us always to be present and in touch with them,” said the manager. According to her, it is a difficult market to enter, especially because of their habits and the distance. “We are always trying to improve our strategies for conquering the Arab market,” she added.
Currently, the company is negotiating with several businessmen from the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Morocco. “We are in contact with several importers whom we met in the last fairs, and we hope to be able to celebrate excellent sales figures, taking Brazilian furniture to all households in the Arab world,” said Frances.
Present in the domestic market for 50 years and in the foreign market for 25, Móveis Carraro exports to 40 different countries. Headquartered in the city of Bento Gonçalves, in Rio Grande do Sul, the company has 650 employees and produces over 150,000 units per month. With a diverse line of products manufactured using MDF and chrome steel, Carraro owns stores in Brazil and abroad.
