São Paulo – Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, will host the 3rd Conference of the Business Owners Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Countries (BOU-OIC). The event will be attended by 1,500 executives from 50 countries, who will discuss investment opportunities and ways to increase trade between Muslim countries. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will participate in the meeting, which will be held from December 14th to 17th.
“They will discuss mutual investment, ways to boost trade between their countries, and how to attract investment from elsewhere. They will also look to develop the halal product market (made in accordance with Islamic tradition),” said the Arab Brazilian Chamber CEO Michel Alaby, who will attend the event alongside the government relations executive Tamer Mansour.
Alaby said the Arab Brazilian Chamber will attend as an “observer,” and that it will seek opportunities for Brazilian businessmen. “I plan on having meetings and seeking out information [about the participating Arab countries], with an eye to converting them into opportunities for Brazilians and more specifically to Arab Brazilian Chamber member companies,” said Alaby.
The participating Islamic countries include Arab nations, like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and non-Arab nations like Turkey and Indonesia.
During the trip, Alaby and Mansour plan on visiting the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and meet with Saudi officials in charge of economic information. They intend to discuss an information exchange agreement between the two chambers of commerce.
Jeddah, a port city located on the Red Sea coast, is Saudi’s premier business hub. It is also the main entry point for Muslims who travel to the country for the pilgrimage to Mecca.
