São Paulo – Footwear trade show Couromoda starts this Monday (13) and runs till Wednesday (15) at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo. According to the organizers, over 200 foreign buyers will attend through Couromoda Exporter program, an initiative that offers services to selected foreign businesspeople. The attending countries include some of the world’s largest importers such as the United States, Brazil’s biggest foreign market.
The organizers told ANBA that they expect Arab importers to visit the show independently, as usual. “It’s a great number of guests and a good sign. It’s worthy pointing out that most of foreign buyers come on their own, without our program’s help. So, the total number of importers will surpass 1,200,” Couromoda general director Jeferson Santos was quoted as saying in a press release.
Last year, the event received eight Arab buyers and 10 in 2018. In 2019 (pictured above), a Dubai company purchased 7,000 pairs of shoes at Couromoda.
In 2019, footwear exports reached 114.55 million pairs of shoes, up 0.9% from the previous year. But revenue was down 0.9%, to USD 967 million in 2019. The figures were made public by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association(Abicalçados).
Year on year, the United Arab Emirates, the main Arab buyer, bought 1.67 million pairs of shoes from Brazil, up 60.1% in volume from the previous year. Revenue also increased, by 17.7%, to USD 12.04 million.
