Brasília – Volume of loans ended 2018 with a 5.5% growth in Brazil, reaching BRL 3.260 trillion (USD 865 billion). The number refers to the total money lent to financial institutions. These data were published this Tuesday (29) by Brazilian Central Bank (BC, acronym in Portuguese). In relation to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the balance reached 47.4%, a 0.2% growth over 2017.
Head of BC Department of Statistics Fernando Rocha stressed that the growth registered last year ended a two-year reatraction cycle for the stock of credit. In 2016, the drop was 3.5% and 0.5% in 2017.
The credit balance for private individuals reached BRL 1.791 trillion (USD 475.2 billion), with an 8.6% growth this year, while the stock for companies reached BRL 1.469 trillion (390 billion), with a 1.9% increase.
