São Paulo – The next phase of the global economy, which will have its fluctuations, will bring opportunities for the emerging economies to increase their presence in the world stage, Arab League secretary-general Ahmed Aboul Gheit (pictured above) said in the opening of the Economic Forum Brazil & Arab Countries hosted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in partnership with the Arab League and the Union of Arab Chambers. The online event started on Monday (22) and will run until Thursday (22).
“The next phase will witness economic fluctuations that we all have seen as well as a slowing growth, which will impact the global economy,” Gheit said. According to the secretary-general, this is an extra incentive to open new unconventional investment horizons between Arabs and Brazilians.
“There are opportunities for the emerging economies to step up their power and presence in the world economic stage, particularly for younger societies, with human potential and capital, as is the case of the Arab world and Brazil,” he said. He recommends studying the weakness of the world economic system and the international trade structure that were revealed by the pandemic and its consequences.
Gheit said Brazil-Arab relations have been established for decades and include political, economic and social cooperation. “Despite the changes in governments and orientations, the Arab-Brazil relations are still based on strong economic and cultural cooperation, as well as other ties between the peoples.”
“The League of Arab States is always willing to communicate with others, particularly friendly countries. And even in cases where there are differences in political orientations, it’s the sustainability of economic, cultural relations between the peoples what the League wants to emphasize and strengthen, as it represents the true solid foundation for the cooperation between the countries,” he said.
The secretary-general stressed the role of the ABCC as a communication bridge between the two regions and its efforts to maintain the trade relations between Brazil and the Arab countries.
