São Paulo – A manufacturer of dental material, FGM, of Santa Catarina, Brazil, has two Arab countries among its primary foreign buyers, and saw sales to them go up 300% in the past four years. The company is an industry leader in dental whiteners in Brazil and Latin America. Out of the 100 countries FGM ships products to, Saudi Arabia is the fourth leading buyer and Lebanon is the 14th.
“Our strong relations with distributors in each of these countries, and the fact that they have grown and secured their footholds in their respective markets have helped us grow. We also provide products of superior quality at very competitive prices,” says International Marketing coordinator Andrea Di Domenico, who also remarks that demand for aesthetical treatments is on the rise in the Arab World.
Besides the Saudis and the Lebanese, FGM also sells to the Arab countries Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia. The first sales to the region targeted Jordan and Lebanon, in 2007, and presently, these countries are the destination of 10% of FGM’s foreign sales. The company exports 20% to 25% of its output.
Dental whiteners and resins are FGM’s top-selling products in the Arab World, but the company manufactures and sells 250 types of products in Brazil and abroad. The main product lines are resins, fiberglass pins, cement and adhesives. All products are for dental treatment, but are not supplied directly to dentists. The company sells to 500-plus stores and distributors.
FGM has a plant in Joinville and employs some 300 personnel. The company is planning to increase its product portfolio in 2016, and as a consequence it should build an additional unit also in Joinville. The company has existed for 20 years. It was founded in the 90s by Friedrich G. Mittelstadt and Bianca Mittelstadt, who developed the first Brazilian dental whitener in partnership with a team from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
