São Paulo – The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES, in the Portuguese acronym) reported this Thursday (15th) that it approved R$ 6.6 billion (US$ 2.4 billion) in loans for wind power projects in 2014. According to the state-owned bank, the projects add up to 2,585.8 megawatts of installed capacity, which, according to the bank, places Brazil among the top five investors in wind power and renewable sources in the world.
According to BNDES, the number of total loans approved last year was up 83% from 2013. The bank supplied R$ 20 billion in loans to projects of the type since 2003, accruing to 7,287.8 MW of installed capacity.
