São Paulo – São Paulo governor João Doria announced on Thursday (5) that he plans on going on a new mission to the United Arab Emirates in October 2021. Doria reported that he will go to Dubai and Abu Dhabi with around 50 Brazilian businesspeople and will have bilateral meetings with investors from the Middle East and the main investment funds of the two emirates. Last February, just before the pandemic arrived in Brazil, the governor went on a mission to the country and brought together 47 businesspeople. Read the full coverage below.
Doria said the government is having online meetings with the UAE until December 15 and the meetings will be on-site in 2021. During the press conference, ANBA asked about the workings and results of the Investe SP office launched in Dubai last February. Invest SP is aimed at developing the state of São Paulo by promoting investments, increasing exports, encouraging innovation, and improving the business environment.
“We launched the office in February 2020, before the pandemic started, to promote the bilateral trade not only with the UAE but with Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East as a whole and the North Africa countries. The office has operated systematically in that regard, with great results. I’d like to stress that it didn’t close, didn’t stop, so didn’t the Shanghai [China] office; we keep following the health orientations from both governments, but the office has consistently yielded good results, particularly regarding finished and agribusiness product exports from São Paulo to the Middle East,” the governor reported.
Doria took the chance to announce other two international actions of the state government. “Next June we will launch a new privately-funded Invest SP office in Munich, Germany. It will be our headquarter in Europe,” he stated.
The governor added that “if Joe Biden wins in the United States, the São Paulo government will open an Office in America in 2020, too.”
