Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian farms registered a production of 928.42 million dozen eggs in the fourth quarter of 2018. According to data published this Tuesday (12) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, acronym in Portuguese), this is the biggest value in the historical series of the survey, started in 1987. The egg production in the fourth quarter was 1% higher than in the third quarter and 8.2% above the result of the fourth quarter of 2017.
IBGE also published surveys of cattle and chicken slaughter. The cattle slaughter reached 8.09 million animals in the fourth quarter of 2018, a 2.3% drop in comparison with the third quarter. The result is 0.4% higher than in the fourth quarter of 2017. A total of 1.42 billion chickens were slaughtered in the fourth quarter of 2018. This result meant a drop over the previous quarter (-0.7) and the same period of 2017 (-0.9%).
