Cairo – The Council of Ministers of Egypt announced a set of incentives and discounts to attract tourists in Qatar for the 2022 International Football Federation (FIFA) World Cup, the main one being the waiver of the visa fee for entry into Egyptian territory.
The Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouly, approved the measure to facilitate entry into the country for Hayya fan card holders. The decision is valid for visitors attending the World Cup in Qatar during the period of the games, from 20 November to 18 December 2022.
The Egyptian Council of Ministers implemented a similar decision on the resumption of tourist inflow during the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, the visa fee exemption was also applied to tourists arriving at tourist destinations in Egypt. The new policy is part of a set of actions adopted by Egypt to benefit from the Cup by boosting local tourism.
In this context, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities implemented a series of other stimuli, including encouraging accommodation in hotels in the cities of Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. Fans with the Hayya fan card will be offered a discount on prices advertised online.
Other new measures were also announced as a result of the agreement between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air Cairo, EgyptAir, and other airlines operating in the Gulf region, and support to issue licenses and approvals needed for air transport companies to increase the number of flights operated from Arab countries neighboring Egypt.
