Cairo – Egypt’s Food Export Council (FEC) wants to expand international sales in the sector next year. The main goal is to boost shipments to markets like China and Brazil, for which exports are still weak, with the potential to double the volume in the coming years.
In an interview with ANBA, the board chairman of the FEC, engineer Hany Barzy (pictured above), said reaching new markets is a top priority for 2024. The FEC plans to participate in shows in China and Brazil to give Egyptian products more visibility and space.
He said the council intends to participate in a series of international events until the end of this year, the most important being Anuga in Germany and WorldFood Istanbul in Turkey. There will also be a presence at WorldFood Moscow, in Russia, and a trip to Private Label and Gulfood, in Dubai, is under planning.
In the first half of 2023, the FEC participated in Gulfood with 118 companies. Presence at the Fancy Food Show in New York had 38 specialized companies. A trade mission to the Moroccan market was also organized with 28 food and packaging companies.
Barzy said the FEC, in cooperation with the Egyptian Trade Representation Authority, which has offices in several countries, does not hesitate to look for new export opportunities available to Egyptian companies, especially in promising markets for local products. The FEC also organizes trade missions to countries that do not have specialized shows.
