São Paulo – The food supplying company El Khalil, from Alexandria, Egypt, is looking to resume selling its products to an old-time buyer: Brazil. Commercial manager Mona Abdiel told ANBA over the telephone that the enterprise intends to sell dehydrated herbs, dried leaves and pepper to Brazilian buyers.
“We are increasing our international presence and our markets worldwide. We want to sell to Brazil because we believe it is a large market that holds promise,” Abdiel said. She also said her company shipped product to Brazilian clients some five years ago. The client was an importing company based in Santos, a coastal city in São Paulo state.
The products El Khalil hopes to sell to Brazil include dried clove, paprika, curcuma, cardamom, cinnamon, rosemary and basil. “We wish to export all sorts of dried herbs and peppers to Brazil,” said Abdiel. She acknowledged that Egyptian manufacturers in this industry face two major international competitors: companies from China and India.
“Those are really two very strong producers and competitors. However, our company stands out for its high levels of product quality and purity. We are not competing on the basis of pricing alone,” she claimed. Currently, El Khalil exports to Italy, Sweden, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The commercial manager also said eventual buyers can re-export the goods. “We want the products to reach the Brazilian market and for part of them to be sold in Brazil. Other than that, we would be glad if our products could be shipped from Brazil to other nearby countries. At this point, we need more information before we enter other markets,” Abdiel explained.
