São Paulo – A delegation of the government of Egypt should be in São Paulo next week for meetings with companies and sector organisations with the objective of identifying trade and investment opportunities in the Arab country. The meetings should be promoted on Monday (1st) at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation should include representatives of the General Authority for Investment (Gafi), the Egyptian investment promotion agency, the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), the Cairo Stock Exchange, the Ministry of Investment, the Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (ESIIC) and the Holding Company for Food Industries.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber and the trade office of Egypt in São Paulo are inviting companies in the selected areas to participate in the meetings. There should be meetings in the areas of medical and dentistry equipment, sugar and alcohol and auto parts and textile, with the presence of sector organisations: the Brazilian Association of the Industry of Medical, Dental, Hospital and Laboratory Articles and Equipment (Abimo), the São Paulo Sugarcane Agroindustry Union (Unica), the Brazilian Association of Auto Parts Manufacturers (Sindipeças) and the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit).
The Egyptians are also going to meet with representatives of the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo and should visit the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa).
The mission is an extension of the trip by the Egyptian minister of Industry and Trade, Rachid Mohamed Rachid, to Brazil in August last year. The success of the delegation should serve as a thermometer for a second visit that the minister plans to make to the country this year.
"They are coming to provide a panorama of the Egyptian economy, to try to sign agreements with the Sindipeças and the Apex and to have meetings with companies and sector organisations," said the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Michel Alaby. The Egyptians plan to promote business opportunities and attract investment to the country. The delegation should be lead by the vice president at Gafi, Nevin Alshfei.
Brazilian companies invest in Egypt, as do Egyptian companies in Brazil, like Marcopolo, which is building a bus factory in Suez, in partnership with a local group, and which is already operating partially. It is the El Sewedy group, which established a joint venture with the Brazilian Damp Electric for the production of electric material in Minas Gerais.
With 77 million inhabitants, Egypt is the most populous Arab country and has a diversified economy with important participation of tourism, oil, industry and agriculture. The country offers incentives to the installation of foreign countries, has agreements with the European Union and is the second main destination for Brazilian imports in the Middle East and North Africa.
Companies interested in participating in the meetings should get in contact with the Marketing Department at the Arab Brazilian Chamber.
