São Paulo – On the first day of the Cairo International Fair, yesterday (18), in Egypt, more than 60 people visited the Brazilian stand seeking information about exporters and importers in various sectors, such as foodstuffs, medical-hospital products, wood, textiles, building material, household appliances, among others. “I am certain that over the course of the event, visitation at the Brazilian stand is going to increase,” said the Foreign Trade assistant at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Hans Lazarte Lima.
According to him, many Arab businessmen know Brazil, but are unaware of the market potential, and it is by participating in fairs that the Arab Brazilian Chamber manages to further promote the image of the country. The majority of businessmen who visited the Brazilian stand, organised by the Chamber, were from Egypt. One of them is interested in corned beef; the other, who imports sanitaryware from China, wants to get to know the Brazilian market in the sector.
Besides the Egyptian importers, the stand also received buyers from Syrian and Lebanon who were interested in coffee beans and soluble coffee, respectively. Also from Egypt, exporters of Egyptian cotton and textiles showed up and requested a list of the Brazilian importer companies. One of the businessmen said that he already knows the state of Santa Catarina, which houses a large textile hub and imports Egyptian yarn.
According to Lima, some of the Egyptian importers visited the stand as a result of contacts made by the Foreign Trade department at the Arab Brazilian Chamber. “The work that we do for Brazilian and Arab companies enjoys wide acceptance, because we have noticed that the contacts we offer each company are helpful in business prospecting,” said the assistant.
On Monday, Lima and the Marketing assistant at the Chamber, Karina Cassapula, visited at the Brazilian embassy in Cairo, where they were welcomed by the assistant for commercial promotion, Aymam Abdel Wahed, and by advisor Otávio Maia Chelotti. Both said that they are ready to help strengthen commercial ties between Brazilian and Egyptian companies.
The fair, currently in its 42nd edition, will continue until March 27th. There are 18 halls, and the Brazilian stand is located in hall number 4. The fair has 1,300 exhibitors and organisers are expecting to attract over 200,000 visitors.
