São Paulo – Induscabos, a maker of flexes and cables, wants to start exporting to the countries of the Gulf after participating in a trade mission to the region. The maker will be one of the companies participating in the delegation that the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) should promote to three Arab countries in the second half of this month. The company already exports 15% of its production to countries in South America, but it has not yet entered the Arab market.
Induscabos is among the five main producers of electric flexes and cables in Brazil and produces the product for medium- and low-tension lines in copper and aluminium. The flexes and cables for low tension are used mainly in fixed installations in residential and commercial buildings, like houses and offices. The medium-tension products, in turn, are used for underground electric energy distribution. The factory also makes cables for aerial distribution and transmission of energy, out of aluminium, and also for the naval industry, which includes oilrigs. In this case, the cables are used on the external part of the platform, but not under water.
The Chamber and Apex mission should visit Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and is turned to the construction sector. "Our expectation is to make good contacts in each of the countries to be visited and if possible also to close some deal," stated the export manager at the company, Heber Santos, who is going to participate in the delegation representing the company together with Marketing director Jenner Iacono Negrão. Induscabos already has a meeting scheduled with a trading company from Qatar that is interested in their products. The meeting should take place during their visit to the Arab country.
Santos believes that due to the great growth in the construction sector, the factory should find market for its products in the countries to be visited by the mission. The trip, according to him, will serve for the company to learn about the local market, about logistics and to see the possibilities for its products in the region. "We believe that it is a potential market," stated the export manager. Induscabos has been exporting for around four years. There are currently around 12 countries buying flexes and cables produced by the company. Most of them are in Latin America. In Africa, the company exports to Angola.
The factory from the state of São Paulo, which is based in the city of Poá, has a production capacity of 1,500 tonnes a month. Induscabos, however, is expanding its production capacity and plans to reach 2,000 tonnes of products a month up to 2008, according to Santos. The company is investing in technology, purchase of machinery, and also in expansion for this. Next year a new industrial unit should be opened for production of medium- and high-tension cables. Induscabos also intends to expand exports, from the current 15% to 30% by 2008, according to Santos.
The mission to the Gulf should bring together 20 Brazilian companies. Apart from business contacts and visits to works in each of the countries, part of the companies should participate in the Big 5 Show, a fair in the sector to take place in the United Arab Emirates at the end of November. Induscabos, however, is only going to participate in the mission.
