São Paulo – The electric equipment and shower manufacturer Fame is poised to step up its sales in Sudan. The company’s local representative placed an order during the Khartoum International Fair, taking place in the Sudanese capital until this Monday (Feb. 01), according to the company’s trader, Maria Prado, who is attending the show. She also visited local businesses and offered training, since the electric shower is not a well-known product in the country.
Fame is offering its electric shower line at the fair. Most African and Arab countries use gas or large outdoor heaters for heating up water.
“It was a huge success, it attracted a lot of interest and the market is developing much better than I had anticipated. That is why I decided to take part in the fair again. It is being a highly productive experience,” said Prado, who attended the event in 2014, when Fame first introduced the electric shower in the country.
She claimed that the company’s main goal at the fair is increasing its market share in Sudan. However, during the event Fame got quotation requests from executives from Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Ethiopia. “The African countries are our primary target, where we believe the product will sell the most. We are also considering testing [for acceptance] in other Arab countries so we can work those markets too,” she said.
Besides representing Fame at the fair, Prado visited clients and stores in Khartoum and nearby cities. She said there aren’t that many competitors selling electric showers in Sudan, since few are the companies making the product in countries other than Brazil. Prado claimed business opportunities abound in Sudan.
“Selling in Sudan is a satisfying experience. We have found the country to be a very interesting, open-minded place. We believe it’s an interesting environment for Brazilian business owners, because it harbors several opportunities. And because there is an embargo [imposed by the United States], it’s a country that needs lots of things, and it has an active entrepreneurial environment,” she said.
Fame is exhibiting at the fair in a stand organized in partnership by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.
