São Paulo – The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Brasília celebrated with pomp Tuesday (11) the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between its country and Brazil. An event attended by officials, businesspeople and invited guests was held in the Monumental venue in the Brazilian capital city, featuring speeches, art performances, and special cuisine.
Mariam Almheiri, who served as the minister of climate change and environment of the UAE and is currently the head of the country’s Office of International Affairs in the Presidential Court, was welcomed by the ambassador of the UAE in Brazil, Saleh Alsuwaidi, and spoke in the opening ceremony. Secretary-general & CEO Tamer Mansourrepresented the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).
The embassy brough to Brazil some major names in Arab culture, arts and cuisine like visual artist Azza Al Qubaisi, musician Abdulaziz Almadani, and chef Kholuud Fairooz, who made the 50th anniversary menu together with Brazilian chef Saulo Jennings. Qubaisi and Almadani performed activities with Brazilian children in the Distrito Federal.

“It was a very nice and well-organized ceremony that was testament to the broad relation Brazil and the UAE have maintained for 50 years,” the ABCC’s secretary-general told ANBA. In addition to a strong and growing trade exchange, Brazil and the UAE share ties in areas such as tourism, culture, education, immigration, defense and security.

Brazilian officials who attended the celebration included Minister of Indigenous Peoples Sonia Guajajara, Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco, Senator Jacques Wagner, and Secretary for Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Laudemar Aguiar Neto, as well as other leading political and business figures.
