São Paulo – Brazil’s ambassador to Egypt, Antonio Patriota, welcomed on Thursday (21) in his official residence students that won the cultural contest “Why would I learn Brazilian Portuguese?” held by the embassy to promote the study of the Portuguese language in Egypt. They participated in an Iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily Ramadan fast.
The students selected in the contest received scholarships and joined Portuguese classes in the Brazilian Institute of Cairo. The institute is a private entity that focuses on teaching Brazilian Portuguese by offering language courses in different levels.
During the Iftar, the contest-winning students shared their experiences learning the Portuguese language. Promoting the Brazilian Portuguese language around the world as an expression of the national culture and history is part of the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil to which the foreign embassies report.
