São Paulo – Two E195-E2 jets by Brazilian company Embraer were delivered to Jordan-based carrier Royal Jordanian Airlines. A ceremony to celebrate the event was held in the facilities of Embraer in São José dos Campos, Brazil, on Monday (22), followed by a celebration held by Royal Jordanian also this week in Jordan, when the planes landed on the Arab country. The aircraft were delivered to Royal Jordanian by aircraft lesser Azorra. Pictured, the two planes.
According to Embraer, the delivery is part of an order announced last May that includes eight jets, of which six are part of the firm-order backlog between Azorra and Embraer, while the remaining two will be delivered directly to Royal Jordanian Airlines. Royal Jordanian is the flag carrier of Jordan and flies to destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America. Azorra is a company based in the United States and a partner of Royal Jordanian that provides lease, financing, and asset management solutions.
In a statement that mentioned the support of Azorra, Royal Jordanian Airlines vice president & CEO Samer Majali said the company will be the first to operate E2 jets in the Middle East. “The E2 family will support our strategic aims, complementing our larger narrow body aircraft by matching capacity to demand, reducing operating costs and carbon emissions, while delivering a significant upgrade to passenger experience and comfort, thus underlining our status as the preferred airline in the region,” Majali was quoted as saying.
Azorra CEO & founder John Evans spoke of the partnership with Royal Jordanian and Azora’s support to the expansion and modernization of the airline. “We’re confident that Royal Jordanian will soon see the environmental and economic advantages of operating these new E2 aircraft that also offer superior levels of passenger comfort,” he was quoted as saying. Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO & president Arjan Meijer said that Royal Jordanian’s selection of the E2 to modernize their fleet is a testament to the aircraft’s advanced capabilities, to the successful history of Embraer, and its strong relationships with both Azorra and Royal Jordanian.
Besides the importance of the transaction for the stakeholders and their expansion goals, this also takes Brazil-Jordan trade to the next level. In addition to business leaders like Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto and other attendees, the delivery ceremony in São José dos Campos featured the ambassador of Jordan to Brazil, Maen Masadeh, the honorary consul of Jordan in São Paulo, Mustapha Abdouni, and director of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), Mohamad Abdouni Neto. The presence of the ABCC was mentioned by the CEO of the Royal Jordanian Airlines. Ambassador Masadeh also thanked the support of the entity to strengthen Arab-Brazilian ties.
Ambassador Maen Masadeh
“My participation in this ceremony takes place in light of the uniquely growing relations between Jordan and Brazil, one of whose most significant results was the signing of this trade deal between two internationally renowned companies – namely Royal Jordanian, that celebrates its sixtieth anniversary, and Embraer, aiming to further strengthening the relations between the two countries, following the guidelines of the wise leadership of His Majesty King Rei Abdullah II, God bless him, and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva”, Masadeh told ANBA.
“It is worth noting that the signing of the deal was rooted in the close fraternal relationship between the leaders of the two countries which has been strengthened by a history of high-level visits as well as shared interests and views. We can also include here the growth of intraregional trade, with the posting of high-record figures in the past couple of years, moving at a face pace towards the goal of stepping up this relation across the board,” said the diplomat.
Masadeh said the deal reflects the adamant trust in the Brazilian product. “With this deal, Royal Jordanian plans on retaining its leadership and unique status as a provider of quality services at reasonable prices to its passengers by using state-of-the-art aircraft featuring the most advanced technological resources, besides being environmental-friendly and fuel-efficient,” he said, pointing out that the Jordanian company already uses Embraer E1 aircraft.
In an interview with ANBA, ABCC president Osmar Chohfi also spoke of what the deal means for Brazil-Arab relations and for Brazil’s standing as a technology supplier in a highly competitive industry. “The aircraft delivery to the airline in Jordan has a special significance – the Brazilian competitiveness and capabilities in a high valued-added product like a plane. It shows the potential for diversifying exports to Arab countries with highly sophisticated technology and is an example for other Arab airlines to buy planes from Embraer, too,” said Chohfi.
Tourism
Ambassador Masadeh says that this time when Brazil-Jordan relations are climbing is also propicious for Brazilians to visit Jordan and enjoy the pleasant weather and high-quality services provided in the country. “It’s an opportunity to marvel at the stunning nature, visit the holy sites, relax in the therapeutical waters of the Dead Sea, and visit one of the world’s seven wonders, Petra, the Pink City.” He congratulated Royal Jordanian and their staff headed by CEO Samer Majali, and Embraer, headed by CEO Francisco Gomes Neto, for the achievement.
