São Paulo – Emirates airline announced this Sunday (21) that on February 4 a new baggage policy will come into effect. Passengers holding economy-class ‘special’ or ‘saver’ tickets will have their checked baggage allowance reduced by 5 kg, meaning they will be permitted to carry only 15 kg and 25kg of checked baggage, respectively.
Baggage allowance for ‘flex’ ticket holders will remain 30 kg, while ‘flex plus’ ticket holders will still be allowed 35 kg. Hand baggage allowance remains 7 kg for all kinds of economy-class tickets, compared to 40 kg for business class passengers and 50 kg for first class passengers.
Emirates passengers holding tickets issued before February 4 will be subject to the previous baggage policies.
The new baggage policy covers all routes except for Americas, including Brazil, and coming from Africa. These routes use the piece concept. For the economy-class, the baggage allowance is two 23-kg pieces. The change for these destinations will be the reduction to one 23-kg piece for ‘special’ and ‘saver’ tickets. ‘Flex’ and ‘flex plus’ ticket holders will still be allowed two 23-kg pieces, while business and first classes may check two 32-kg pieces.
