São Paulo – The global carbon market will be the subject of a lecture by the Brazilian Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite (pictured), at the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in São Paulo, next Friday (1). Aimed at the institution’s members, the event aims to bring companies closer to the carbon credit market and show them how they could enter the universe of sustainable business.
The global carbon market consists of trading carbon credits. Decarbonization projects, ranging from afforestation to clean energy production, can have their credits sold by those who need to offset emissions. A nation that has reduced its emission of greenhouse effect gases beyond its goals can, with this tool, sell its surplus.
At the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) last year, the Brazilian government announced a goal of reducing the country’s carbon emissions by 50% by 2050. At the occasion, Minister Joaquim Leite presented a series of initiatives aimed at the strategy, such as zeroing out illegal deforestation by 2028, with systematic reduction, restoration, and afforestation of 18 million hectares of forests, among others.
The event will feature translation into English and Portuguese, and it’ll be streamed online for the ABCC members. To register for the event, ABCC members must send an email to rsvp@ccab.org.br or call +55 (011) 96320-2062. The in-person event will start at 10:30 am (BRT), with a welcome coffee, and continue with Joaquim Leite’s lecture at 11:00 am.
