São Paulo – Professor and translator Safa Jubran will present the lecture “On Translation: The Encounter Between Arabic and Portuguese” this Saturday afternoon (11) in São Paulo. She will explore the language that connects the two languages, as well as the culture and history that relate them. Admission is free.
Safa Jubran was born in Lebanon and has lived in São Paulo since 1982. She is a professor of Arabic language at the University of São Paulo (USP). She has translated into Portuguese, among other works, Miramar by Naguib Mahfuz and Season of Migration to the North by Tayeb Salih. From Portuguese into Arabic, she has translated, among other works, The Brothers: A novel by Milton Hatoum. She is the author of Arabic and Portuguese: Contrastive Phonology with the Application of Computerized Technologies (free translation).
