São Paulo – The Arab immigration in Brazil will be the topic of a lecture during the seminar “The Arab Culture in Latin America”, to be held this Sunday (13) in Amman, capital of Jordan. The meeting will take place at the Jordan Museum (pictured above) and Brazilian writer and researcher Roberto Khatlab, who lives in Lebanon, will be the one talking about the topic.
Khatlab, who is the director of the Latin American Studies and Cultures Center (LASCC) of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), in Lebanon, was invited to speak by Brazil’s embassy in Amman. The Brazilian professor has published books in Portuguese, French, English, Spanish and Arabic on many issues, among them the Arab and Lebanese immigration in Brazil.
The seminar in Lebanon was organized by the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, the embassy of Spain in Jordan and the Instituto Cervantes in Amman, in collaboration with the Arab Thought Forum and the Jordan Museum, and the patronage of Jordanian prince El Hassan bin Talal. Brazil’s embassy in Jordan is one of the event’s supporters.
Besides Khatlab, other speakers will be the Spanish professor Rafael López Guzmán (Al Andalus in America: from Mudéjar to Neo-Arabic Art) and Jordanian Hind Al Shaer (Jordanian Immigrants in Latin America). Khatlab’s lecture is named “Contributions of Arab Diaspora in Brazil” and will begin at 12:30 pm.
The event’s opening remarks will be made by the director general of Jordan Museum, Ihab Amarin, by Spain’s ambassador in Jordan, Aránzazu Bañón Dávalos, and Brazil’s ambassador in Jordan, Francisco Carlos Soares Luz. The seminar begins 10:30 am and runs until early in the afternoon. The moderator will be Salah Jarrar and the presentations will be done in Arabic and Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation.
