São Paulo – The 38th Brazilian Travel Agency Congress (Abav 2010) and the Fair of the Americas, to take place from October 20th to 22nd, at Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, should have stands from Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and from the emirate of Dubai among the 800 exhibitors. According to the organizers of the event, up to the moment, the participation of 42 countries has been confirmed and another 24,000 visitors are expected.
Egypt, Palestine and Dubai will have stands of the departments of tourism of their governments – the Egyptian Tourist Authority, Tourism in Palestine and Dubai Tourism. The Jordanian stand, in turn, will count on five travel operators (La Beduina Eco-Tours Travel, Discovery – DMC, Karma House for Travel & Tourism, Travel Club – DMC and Golden Crown Tours) and Marriot Hotels Jordan. Apart from that, the fair should also receive two representatives from the Jordan Travel Board (JTB), director general Mayef Al Fayez and marketing director Mahfouz Mishek.
According to Gisele Abrahao, from Global Vision Access Consultoria em Turismo, which represents JTB in Brazil, Jordan considers the country a priority market and has been developing work focussed on the country in recent years. "Although the actions are still isolated, ever since we started our work here, in late 2006, the number of Brazilian tourists visiting Jordan has risen 700% – from 1,000 to 8,000," she celebrates.
Gisele, who is Brazilian, spent eight years working at the JTB offices in Washington, in the United States, prior to returning to Brazil to grant training and support to operators and to help promote Jordan in the national media.
According to her, last Monday (11), newspaper Jordan Times published an article showing that the number of Brazilian tourists in Jordan rose 111% over the first eight months of the year as against the same period in 2009. This information was granted by the minister of Tourism and Antiques, Afanah Suzanne, who received her Brazilian college, minister Luiz Eduardo Pereira Barretto Filho, and the delegation that is accompanying him, last Sunday (10), in Petra. They spoke about methods for tourist cooperation between both nations.
Emirates and Qatar Airway, Arab airlines which operate flights from Brazil, should also be present at the fair.
