São Paulo – The 20th edition of the International Fair of Technology and Packaging for the Food Industry (FISPAL Tecnologia), which took place between June 1 and 4 at the Anhembi exhibition pavilion in São Paulo, generated an estimated business volume of US$ 1.544 billion (exchange rate of June 9, 2004) for the 1,764 domestic and international exhibitors in the packaging, food, pharmaceutical product, cosmetics, and chemical sectors.
According to information supplied by the fair organization, the event included representatives from 10 Brazilian states, and from 12 other countries, totalling 110 international and 1,654 domestic companies. "We are very satisfied with this result," stated fair director Luiz Fernando Pereira, through a spokesperson.
The director added that many companies closed accords for values totalling three to six months of revenue. Others made important contacts that, in the middle and long term, could become business deals.
During the event, 1,058 companies showed the most recent news in terms of equipment, accessories, and raw materials for the packaging industry. The president of the Brazilian Association of Packaging (Abre), Fábio Mestriner, stated, through a spokesperson, that the event "made it possible for companies and the society in general to become acquainted with the quality of packaging produced in Brazil."
The Export Plastic program, developed by the National Plastic Institute (INP), with the support of the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Apex), put Brazilian businessmen and importers from the United States, Mexico, England, Portugal, and Chile face to face during business roundtables, according to the event organizers.
Program executive manager Wagner Delarovera forecasts that within the next 6 months a total of US$ 8 million in sales should be generated. The products most sought by importers were supermarket bags, polystyrene film, throw away products (in the home appliance line), technical parts, and crystal polystyrene.
