São Paulo – Flex Deck, a factory of wooden modulated decks from Brasília, should sell its products in the United Arab Emirates starting next year. The company has got an exclusive distributor in the Arab country, with whom it has been developing a business plan. According to the company’s partner and administrator, Renaud Imhof Adorno, it should all be ready for initial sales in March 2012.
Flex Deck produces modular hardwood decks with a plastic base. In practice, they are wooden parts that are fit onto a plastic base. Adorno explains that the plastic base technology was developed by Flex Deck itself and that among the advantages over decks that are placed directly on the soil is the perfect alignment, the fact that it does not require cement or mortar and that it can be removed when necessary.
The product, decorative, is used as flooring for external or semi-internal areas, like summer gardens, saunas, spas, verandas and areas surrounding pools, among others. According to Adorno, it is a luxury product and, for this reason, the businessman believes that there is market in the Arab world.
The partner with whom Flex Deck is going to work in the Emirates has branches in other countries in the region, like Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, which should also allow the Brazilian company to sell elsewhere. Expansion in sales should only be in future, however, and the next market to be opened should be Qatar.
Flex Deck already exports to the Emirates, where sales began two months ago, and has also sold to Europe. The company produces 350 square metres a day and currently has 10% of revenues connected to exports. Soon this percentage should rise to 30%, and, by mid-2013, to between 60% and 70%, explained Adorno. The company, according to the businessman, aims to grow both in the local and the foreign market.
Flex Deck is a small company with 30 employees. Apart from the unit in Brasília, where assembly of the products takes place and where the management office is located, the company also has a plant in Mato Grosso, in a city called Claudia, where the wooden decks are produced.
In the Brasília market, the company works on design for clients, makes the product and then assembles. In other markets, the company only makes the products – it helps measure area, among other details – and delivers. Flex Deck, however, is slowly finding partners for the other services in order to focus exclusively on production of the decks.
