São Paulo – Brazilian exports of footwear totalled US$ 646.5 million from January to April, representing growth of 3.2% in comparison with the same period last year. Foreign shipments totalled 67.4 million pairs, 4.4% more than in the first four months of 2007. The information was supplied by the Brazilian Association of Shoe Manufacturers (Abicalçados).
Leading buyers of Brazilian footwear were the United States, which bought 20.4 million pairs; the United Kingdom, which purchased 4.1 million; and Italy, which bought 3.4 million. The Brazilian product was shipped to 120 countries, including Arab ones, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Oman, Jordan, Algeria, Libya, Qatar and Bahrain.
From January to April, exports to the Arab market totalled US$ 10.62 million, representing growth of 22% compared with the same period last year. In terms of volume, Brazil shipped 508,660 pairs, growth of 11.7%.
In the month of April, footwear exports from Brazil had a decrease, in both volume and revenues, compared with the same month of 2007. Sales totalled 13.1 million pairs, with revenues of US$ 126.9 million, a reduction of 8.8% in volume and of 4.3% in revenues.
