São Paulo – The fans by company Gerbar, from São Paulo, have been arriving at Arab homes at least once a year. Through a distributor in the United States, the company from São Paulo ships between 10 and 12 items a year to Egypt. "We have also already sold to Dubai two or three times. There is a very good market in the Emirates, I am greatly interested," said Gerbar owner Claudia Spina.
With 10 employees and on the market for 48 years, the company has been present in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, India and Australia. According to Claudia, Gerbar has already had as much as 70% de of its production exported, but with the depreciation of the dollar, foreign sales are 25% to 30% of production.
The models most shipped abroad are the Duplo Dinâmico, a ceiling fan with two motors and aluminium blades. "It has good air displacement, five or six times greater than other models," said Claudia. Another differential of the Gerbar fans is design. "Apart from the good performance, people like the style of our fans as they have a more retro design."
The first Gerbar fan was designed by Claudia’s grandfather, Geraldo Barros, who created the company in 1963. It was later bought by Claudia’s father.
Currently, the company produces between 300 and 500 items a month. According to the company owner, all parts are 100% Brazilian. Apart from the 10 employees at Gerbar, the company employs much outsourced labour from an electroplating company.
Despite the depreciated dollar, Claudia still bets on the foreign market. According to her, the company does not make direct sales to the Arab world, but sells through a distributor in the United States, as the export cost is higher.
Products
Apart from the ceiling fans, Gerbar also produces models that stand on a foot, for wall mounting, and to sit on desks, as well as producing exhausters, among others. Last year the company started selling a line of fans with bamboo and weed blades on the domestic market, imported from the United States.
