São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of External Relations (MRE) will host Monday, starting Monday (16th), the third edition of the “Course on Management of Trilateral and South-South”, which aims at strengthening the management capacity of international cooperation. Representatives from 40 countries will attend the event, which is funded and conducted by a partnership between the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and the United Nations office for South-South cooperation.
According to information released by Itamaraty, the course promotes knowledge experience on issues such as communications, human resources management, institutional framework and coordination, and management of development projects.
This edition of the event will be attended by representatives from Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Benin, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, China, Singapore, Colombia, Egypt, El Salvador, Philippines, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iran, Malawi, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, Peru, Kenya, Dominican Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Samoa, St Thomas and Prince, Sudan, Thailand, East Timor, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda and Vietnam.
ABC’s manager of bilateral coordination, Juliana Campos Fronzaglia said to ANBA that the course is part of a project created in 2012 that will end in 2016 and has as its goal the strengthening of South-South cooperation. The issues and exchange of knowledge to be presented in the training were proposed in partnership by the countries attending. “It’s necessary for everybody to take hold of this cooperation. It’s necessary for these capacities to develop and grow stronger”, she said.
Brazilian government’s bodies sent professionals to give lectures and share experiences to those attending the course. Some of these agencies are the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Ministry of National Integration and the Brazilian National School of Public Administration (Enap). The majority of the professionals that will take part in the course are diplomats, but also members of the cooperation agencies and ministries of Finance and Planning of the countries to come.
The first edition of the project was held in March, 2013. The second edition took place in Brasilia in November of the same year. Itamaraty states that Brazil became a “reference” in cooperation projects when it intensified the South-South cooperation, which foresees partnerships for development between developing countries and trilateral cooperation, in which there’s south-south cooperation in partnership with foreign multilateral bodies and agencies. These initiatives, says the press release, are focused in the development of institutional strengthening and capacity of partner countries. The course will be held until next Friday (20th).
