São Paulo – Expenditure by foreign tourists during trips to Brazil was up by USD 10 million to USD 429 million year-on-year in May, the Ministry of Tourism reported this Monday (25). Year-to-date through May, spending reached USD 2.86 billion, up 6.71% year-on-year.
Spending by Brazilian travelers in other countries climbed 7.95% in May and 10.83% year-to-date through May. Brazilian Central Bank numbers show that tourist spending increased from USD 7.29 billion through May 2017 to USD 8 billion through May 2018.
Tourism minister Vinicius Lummertz said streamlined visa processes for travelers from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan were a driver of increased tourist numbers in Brazil.
